Cowra & surrounds
Cowra Japanese Garden, Cowra
It’s famous as the site of a break-out by Japanese POWs in 1944 (learn more at the Cowra Japanese Gardens and Cultural Centre), but Cowra is more than just its colourful past. Situated in the Lachlan Valley, the Cowra region offers tranquil waterways, a wealth of wineries, unforgettable food and wine experiences, and rolling farmlands. The perfect place to break free.
Cowra winemakers share what makes this NSW wine region so special. Enjoy tours of acclaimed organic wineries and tastings at boutique cellar doors. You’ll also discover classic country pubs and local restaurants where the menus feature local produce grown on innovative eco-agricultural farms.
The Cowra area is just over a four-hour drive west of Sydney, via the Blue Mountains. You can fly into Orange Regional Airport, a 75-minute drive away. If you are visiting from Canberra, Cowra is just over a two-hour drive away, via the pretty Yass Valley and Hilltops region.
