Discover a natural wonderland of tranquil beaches, fascinating rock pools, crystal-clear waters and striking sandstone cliffs in the seaside village of Currarong. In this beautiful part of the Shoalhaven region, you’ll enjoy top fishing spots, wonderful reef diving and spectacular vantage points for whale watching.
Currarong is located at the northern tip of the dramatic Beecroft Peninsula on the NSW South Coast and adjacent to splendid Jervis Bay, a haven for dolphins, seals and penguins. Jervis Bay Marine Park also encompasses the waters off Currarong, making for great swimming and watersports
Currarong’s main protected beach is Abrahams Bosom Beach, a beautiful spot with a picnic area. It’s also the starting point for two scenic walks. The one-hour Wreck walk takes you to the remains of SS Merimbula, shipwrecked in 1928, while the three-hour Coomies walk goes around the breathtaking headland.
Ten kilometres south of Currarong is the stunning Honeymoon Bay, a small sheltered cove perfect for spending a day by the beach, snorkelling and paddling in the sea. There is a campground for those interested in staying overnight. Other pretty beaches in the area include Currarong Beach, Bindijine Beach, Target Beach and Wilson's Beach.
Sheer cliffs rise up from the sea on Beecroft Peninsula, a great location for spotting dolphins and migrating whales. For more magnificent views, you can drive along Lighthouse Road to Point Perpendicular Lighthouse, established in 1899 and perched at the northern entrance of Jervis Bay.
A short walk from Warrain Beach is Hammerhead Point, a delightful picnic area and top spot to see humpback and southern right whales during their annual migration. The beach leads to a superb reef teeming with marine life, including dolphins, octopus and stingrays. Bring your diving and snorkelling gear.
Located in the Shoalhaven region on the NSW South Coast, Currarong is less than three hours’ drive from both Sydney and Canberra. Make a road trip of your journey there by driving along the stunning Grand Pacific Drive.
