Kosciuszko National Park has glacial lakes, alpine meadows, snow gum forests and beautiful rivers such as the Snowy River and Thredbo River. It offers nature-lovers some wild and extraordinary experiences attracting skiers, hikers, kayakers, campers, rafters and mountain bike enthusiasts.

It is the State's largest national park and host to a huge variety of flora and fauna with almost 40 per cent of the known bird species in Australia. Mount Kosciuszko is the highest peak in Australia standing at 2228 metres. It was named by the Polish explorer, Paul Edmund Strzelecki, after its similarity to the tomb of the Polish patriot Kosciuszko. The Parks outstanding natural features received international recognition in 1977 when it was made a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.
