Outback Astronomy
Overview
See the big outback sky at night. Head to Outback Astronomy, a dark-sky location just a 10-minute drive outside Broken Hill.
Experiences include Milky Way Hangout and Hang out with the Stars®, held on clear, dark nights.
All bookings must be made online to ensure your hosts can communicate with you about the weather on the day of your stargazing. When booking, select the level of experience you seek, eg in a reclined chair or on bench-style seats, with food and beverage service, or with a hot chocolate. In The Sky Tonight, the moon is part of the experience, while Dinner with the Stars is a graze and gaze event typically scheduled on weekends, with or without the moon in view. Guests have access to optics in use on the night of stargazing.
No matter which event, a panoramic view is assured. This open air observatory sits on a purpose built stargazing site. The naked-eye viewing is spectacular.
Whichever experience is selected, appropriate attire is essential. Guests can bring their own blankets and other warm gear. In winter, guests are advised to wear up to seven layers. In summer, plan to wear three layers in the event of a cool change. At the time of booking, sleeping bags may be hired with reclined chairs.
For upcoming experiences, check the calendar on the Outback Astronomy website.
