Pet-friendly holiday parks in NSW

Before you go

To ensure your holiday is a safe, stress-free experience there are a few precautions to take before setting off. Firstly, make sure your pet's vaccinations are up to date and have your contact details attached to their collar. 

You should also consult the pet policy in place at your chosen holiday park. For example, some parks do not allow dogs during school holidays. For peace of mind, speak with the manager of the holiday park prior to booking. Holiday parks also require dogs are kept on a leash at all times and that you clean up after them.

Main Beach, Byron Bay

Pets react differently to travel and being on the move without proper planning can cause them distress. Help ensure a smooth ride by providing your animal with enough water and by monitoring the temperature. The Caravan & Camping Industry Association of NSW has the following helpful tips about travelling with pets: 
 

• Ask your vet for advice before you travel

• Exercise your pets about 20 minutes before the trip

• Restrain your pets in a carrier or harness in the car

• Never leave your pets unattended in your vehicle

• Take regular bathroom breaks on your journey
   

It's worth noting that no domestic pets – other than trained assistance animals like guide dogs – are allowed in national parks, State conservation areas, reserves, historic sites or Aboriginal cultural heritage areas.

North Coast 

There is lots of pet-friendly accommodation on the NSW North Coast. Most NRMA caravan parks allow pets, with dog-friendly villas and cabins at NRMA South West Rocks Holiday Resort, NRMA Forster Tuncurry Holiday Park and NRMA Darlington Beach Holiday Resort, as well as caravanning and camping options, which are also available at NRMA Stockton Beach Holiday Park, NRMA Ocean Beach Holiday Resort and NRMA Port Macquarie Breakwall Holiday Park.

BIG4 Saltwater Yamba has a fully fenced, off-leash dog play area with ramps and tunnels for your canine pal to enjoy. Dog-friendly camping is available year-round with advance booking and an additional fee. They also have a coin operated 'Doggie Wash' - handy for those sandy beach days.  

Reflections Holiday Parks also allow dogs at selected parks, including Lennox Head, Evans Head, North Haven and Moonee Beach. Call ahead to book, as some of the parks don’t accept pets during peak periods, while some offer dog-friendly camping spots and others pet-friendly cabins.  

Reflections Holiday Parks, Lennox Head 

Ingenia Holidays at White Albatross in Nambucca Heads and South West Rocks offer pet-friendly sites, suites and cabins. BYO dog bedding and check on size restrictions in advance. In Port Stephens, registered and vaccinated pets are allowed outside of peak holiday periods at Halifax Holiday Park, when staying in your own van, tent or camper.

Central Coast 

The Central Coast is a fantastic pet-friendly destination, with lots of walks, beaches and restaurants that accommodate dogs. Beachfront Toowoon Bay Holiday Park accepts dogs in its camping sites and is perfectly located next to dog-friendly North Shelly Beach. Just up the road at The Entrance, is Two Shores Holiday Village, which is entirely pet-friendly and offers villas, eco-huts, cabins and powered and unpowered sites. Continue north, for lakeside pet-friendly cabins and sites at Ingenia Holidays Lake Macquarie.

South Coast

There is plenty of accommodation allowing pets on the South Coast of NSW. In Merimbula and the Sapphire Coast, Tathra Beachside believe that animals are a part of the family and have special pet cottages and villas, as well as pet camping. Dogs receive a welcome treat on arrival and will love the location, on dog-friendly Tathra Beach. Further south, NRMA Merimbula Beach Holiday Resort and Ingenia Holidays Eden Beachfront have pet-friendly caravanning and camping, with cabins at the latter.

Near the beautiful beaches of Jervis Bay and Shoalhaven are excellent places to stay with dogs. Jervis Bay Holiday Park allows pets on powered and unpowered sites, as well as in their garden villas. These have river frontage, meaning your pet can enjoy a dip too. Dogs are welcome at Ingenia Merry Beach, and at Holiday Haven’s parks at Sussex Inlet, Ulladulla and Bendalong outside of school holidays and peak periods.  

In Batemans Bay and Eurobodalla, pets can join at Mystery Bay Campground, an idyllic spot right on the water’s edge. And at NRMA Batemans Bay Holiday Resort you can bring your dog, cat, or bird along for a holiday.

Country NSW

You will find lovely holiday parks where pets are welcome in the wine regions of Mudgee, Orange, the Canberra District and the Riverina, such as BIG4 Mudgee Holiday Park and Ingenia Holidays Wagga Wagga. Many wineries allow dogs too, so your fur baby can accompany you for a tasting. 

In Yass, camp at dog friendly Wee Jasper Reserves, where you can pitch your tent next to rivers and streams and walk the Hume and Hovell Walking Track. 

Lowe Wines, Mudgee

Riverwood Downs in the foothills of Barrington Tops welcomes you and your pets to stay, with over 750 acres to play, swim and explore. In the beautiful Southern Highlands relax in the pet and family-friendly eco bush camping ground Wollondilly River Station.   

In Bathurst, stay with your dog at NRMA Bathurst Panorama Holiday Park and take advantage of the pet-friendly Bathurst Explorer Bus where you can learn about the city’s top sites and attractions. Further west, NRMA Dubbo Holiday Park is only two minutes from Dubbo’s city centre and has cabins and camping for you and your hound. There are dog-friendly walks nearby and you can take your furry pal to Dubbo Farmers Market too.

Snowy Mountains 

Take your canine pal on a getaway to the Snowy Mountains and stay at NRMA Jindabyne Holiday Park. The lakeside accommodation has pet-friendly camping right on the water’s edge. You can also take your dog to some of Jindabyne’s bars and breweries, such as Jindabyne Brewing or the outdoor tables at Kosciuszko Brewery. 

Further north, Buckenderra Holiday Village has dog-friendly cabins and camping, situated on 900 acres of land alongside Lake Eucumbene. It’s a great spot for fishing enthusiasts, with trout and fly-fishing opportunities. On the other side of the lake, Rainbow Pines has a variety of accommodation options and allows small dogs on site.

The Murray 

Set on the shores of Lake Mulwala, NRMA Yarrawonga Mulwala Holiday Park is a pet-friendly caravan and camping spot, allowing dogs, cats, rabbits or birds. Pets are also allowed in selected cabins. 

BIG4 Swan Hill allows dogs on selected camping and caravan sites, and they also have two fully fenced apartments that are pet-friendly. BIG4 Deniliquin Holiday Park is dog-friendly from 1 May to 16 December (but not the rest of the year). You can also take your fur baby to Ingenia Lake Hume and Tocumwal Tourist Park.

Outback NSW 

Experience Outback NSW with your doggo and stay at Broken Hill Tourist Park. Located close to the city centre of Broken Hill, the park has dog-friendly camping and caravan sites throughout the year. Cobar Caravan Park has a small number of pet-friendly cabins and is a great base for exploring the ‘Copper City’ and learning about the history of mining in NSW.  

At Big 4 Opal Holiday Park in Lighting Ridge, you can check your pooch into doggy day care, while you explore the fascinating opal history of the town and relax in the artesian bore baths.
