Tamworth & surrounds
Countryside in Tamworth Area
Life comes with a distinct twang in Tamworth, the spiritual home of Australian country music. Visitors pour into this regional hub in the state’s north-east every autumn for the world-famous music festival, but you’ll also discover a region that takes its culture, history and food seriously, and where a warm country welcome is never far away.
One of Australia’s greatest music festivals, the annual Tamworth Country Music Festival hosts some of the world’s top country music stars. The pinnacle event of the festival is the Golden Guitars – the Country Music Awards of Australia. But you can also look forward to the buskers, entertainment and plenty of food stalls.
The Pig & Tinder Box was one of the first pubs in the New England region, opening in 1848. Since then the popular Tamworth venue has been transformed into a casual dining and urban bar oasis. Tamworth local and owner Fraser Haughton shares his love for the community and reveals why the pub has become a favourite for young and old.
On this four-day road trip, wind along sun-dappled country roads from Barraba to Tamworth, fossicking for hidden gems, and exploring historic colonial towns and spectacular national parks.
