Surrounded by a stunning red gum forest, Tocumwal is an idyllic town perfect for fishing, camping, aerial adventures and relaxing by the river. On the banks of the magnificent Murray River, this historic town is also home to fascinating local stories and heritage, such as the aerodrome museum.
With 24 riverside beaches close to town, you’ll find plenty of swimming, boating and fishing opportunities. Visit the Information Centre to find out about hiring watersport equipment. Tocumwal Foreshore Park is also home to the iconic Big Murray Cod, a large structure which celebrates the prized local catch.
A renowned destination for gliding, you can take a scenic glider flight over the countryside with Sport Aviation. The Tocumwal Aerodrome, also known as McIntyre Airfield, is famous for its training role during World War II. Learn about wartime history at the Tocumwal Aviation Museum.
You’ll find more local heritage at the Tocumwal Railway Heritage Museum, which includes photos and memorabilia dating back to 1908. There’s also a working model train display and tea rooms. Take a tour of Finley Railway Station, built in the 1890s, and beautifully preserved. At Chrysties Museum, discover an amazing private collection of eclectic antiques, collectables and rare finds.
Tee off on Tocumwal Golf Club's 36-hole championship course or enjoy the friendly atmosphere at the 18-hole Finley Golf Club. Browse the monthly Tocumwal Foreshore Variety Market and explore more of the region on a sightseeing tour with Bushliner Buses. A short drive north is the Tocumwal Blowhole and the Rocks, a granite outcrop and significant Aboriginal site.
Take your love of cooking to the next level – or just indulge in sweet treats – at the Tocumwal Chocolate School. Classes range from tempering and using truffles to learning ganache and spraying shells for Bon Bons.
There are plenty of accommodation options, from holiday parks and motels to riverside camping on Ulupna Island, a river island in the Barmah National Park, just outside of town. For a unique experience, book into the riverside studios at the Tocumwal Chocolate School, and enjoy an unlimited supply of chocolate with your stay.
Tocumwal is a seven-hour drive from Sydney and three hours from Melbourne. You can also fly or get the train to Albury and rent a car for the scenic 1h 40min drive.
